Kate Burke Gibbs, Greenleaf Training Unit Manager and Practitioner, will serve as Adjunct Faculty at the School of International Service (SIS) at American University in Washington, D.C., in 2018. She will teach Building Resilience for her second iteration of the Spring Skills Institute, a series of courses available to current SIS graduate students taught by experienced professionals from many fields related to international affairs.
This intensive workshop will provide SIS students with practical strategies for developing resilience when working in high-threat environments, such as humanitarian, aid, or diplomatic work. Students will look at the neurobiological effect of stress on human physiology, explore how to enhance their self-management skills, and learn practical methods to improve their ability to mitigate stress.
The course will be offered March 2-4, 2018. School of International Service students can visit the Skills Institute website to register.
