DR. SIDDHARTH ASHVIN SHAH WILL BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT INSTITUTE FOR DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA, May 30, 2019 …Greenleaf Integrative CEO, Dr. Siddharth Ashvin Shah, will be a keynote speaker at the Annual Conference for the Institute for Disaster Mental Health on June 7 in New Paltz, New York.
His presentation, entitled “Taking Charge of Vicarious Trauma and Work-Related Distress” will be one of two keynote addresses focusing on the conference theme of “Supporting Children After Trauma and Disaster: Protecting New York’s
Future.”

According to Dr. Shah, “Being on the front lines of trauma response means exposure to physical stressors, mental challenges, and existential questions – all of which can have a negative impact on responders, particularly when children are hurt in a mass event. The field of disaster response has grappled with vicarious trauma, burnout, and other types of distress with many advancements in scholarship and organizational action.”

Before founding Greenleaf, Dr. Shah provided trauma-informed care to helpers, healers, and protectors in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami, Kashmir earthquake, hurricanes Rita and Katrina, and Gujarat religious violence. His interdisciplinary expertise spans the humanities, social sciences, common sense preventive medicine, cross-cultural resilience and spiritual practices, disaster public mental health, and real-world applications of cutting-edge neuroscientific thinking.
